'Life is to short to limit yourself, I want to be able to try everything' - moretoexplore
As you tell by the title of this post I'm going to be discussing shopping in the 'boys' section of clothing stores and why I think more people should do this! Also just to clarify as I'm a girl I will be talking about girls shopping in the boys section, BUT the same also applies for boys shopping in the girls section, I honestly think everyone should be free to feel comfortable shopping in whatever section they want to. I will also be showing off some of my favourite items I've purchased that were originally designed for boys, and letting you in on my favourite stores to shop in.
Let's start from the beginning! I have a very chilled and simple style that mainly consists of tee's and ripped jeans, but one day I was walking past a shop with tee's up on hangers in the window and thought THAT IS ME!! So naturally I walked into the shop to the girls section to find this tee, after my search I couldn't find it anywhere, so I asked one of the lovely workers there who pointed me to the tee, and there is was hanging up in the BOYS SECTION!!*gasp* I couldn't possibly wear a boys clothing thats crazy! So I walked out of the shop and continued with my day. Now that might sound a little dramatic but since then I couldn't stop thinking out why I was so embarrassed to be seen wearing something from the boys section or to even be seen looking in the boys section. It's 2018 surely I should be able to shop or wear whatever I want without feeling judged or embarrased right? From then on I found myself taking small steps to being more open about what I wear, if I saw something I liked or was curious what the boys section had to offer I would start having I little peak, then I started having a walking round the section, and then nearly every store I went in I would look at the boys section too. And I ended up buying clothes from the boys section confidently and feeling happy wearing the clothes!! From this I actually learned a few things that I didn't know before about shopping in the boys section, allow me to run you through what I learnt:
Now lets talk clothes! So I'm going to show you some things that I have purchased that were meant for boys, and I'll get you be the judge to weather you think both genders could easily wear these items. I will also be letting you know what store I purchased these at so you can also check them out!!
You may realise a lot of the clothes I've purchased are from urban, mainly because I LOVE their style and their design. So these are screenshots of the clothes but I do actually own every piece I'm about to show you! Comment below if you own any of these!!
I don't usually shop in Topman because I love Topshop, however if I ever see something in the windows that catches my eye then I tend to have a little snoop, and this is what I found!
Now I find Levi's clothing to be very unisex and that the store isn't really split into sections, instead it just merges into one big section, which I LOVE, because its not like 'oh lets head to the boys section' you can just search the whole store without feeling out of place, do you know what I mean? Anyways here are some clothes I bought from here.
And lastly!! Pull&Bear just like Urban Outfitters I really like the boys section their, the clothes are so bright and I love the graphics they have, as you will be able to tell from the clothes I bought from here.
STAR SIGNS!!! We all have them, but what do they mean? Do they even have a meaning or did someone with a very good imagination make it all up. Personally I've never believed in star signs and have never looked up my own, but I've always had an open mind about it and if someone does believe in them then I'm always happy to listen and interested in their reasoning to why they believe you can tell so much about someone just by the month they where born in.
In this post I advise you to put on your googles as we are diving straight into astrology and fun facts behind your zodiac sign. I'am a Capricorn and I'm assuming Capricorns must all have the best sense of humour and a strange addiction to coffee, right? Anyways lets get into it!!!
So I'm sure you probably know what star sign you are, however your sign can tell you a lot and I mean A LOT about your personality type, in fact here's a list of everything your star sign can tell you about you:
I've honestly never looked up my star sign so I was very excited to actually see if I relate to any of it. Like I said I'm a Capricorn and if your a fellow Capricorn then let me tell you some of our traits: dark sense of humour, likes music, expects the worst, likes family, independent, positive for ethic, unforgiving. From this list I must admit I can relate to a lot of them but I feel like so can everyone, regardless of the month you are born in, but then I looked up my star signs dislikes, which has a very simple answer of: dislikes almost everything at some point, and this is something I can relate to BIG TIME!! I'm one of those people that become obsessed with trends, people, music and objects and then hate them, again I'm not sure if that's due to my star sign but I did have a little chuckle to myself when I read that. We also all belong to an 'element' which I never knew about, here are the elements and where the signs belong: Fire (spontaneous and impulsive) - Aries, Sagittarius and Leo. Water (imaginative and emotional) - Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. Air (quick, animated and known to overthink feelings) - Libra, Aquarius and Gemini. Earth (quiet, slow reactions and slow to change emotion) Capricorn, Taurus and Virgo.
When researching star signs I came across hundreds upon thousands of websites filled with information about EVERYTHING there is to know about you (supposedly) to the point were you will never have to have a conversation with anyone ever again, instead just find out their star sign and it will tell you EVERYTHING! In fact it will tell you mostly these traits:
Hope you enjoyed this post and maybe learned something about yourself and your star sign. And I will leave links to legit websites that I found really instreting to read and helped me understand astrogoly, so go check them out!! Thanks for reading and remember to never stop exploring!
Links to really cool websites about star signs:
This post is something a little bit different. I was nominated for a Liebster Award! And if like myself you had no idea what that means then feel free to check out what its all about and how to get involved at The Global Aussie: https://theglobalaussie.com/liebster-award-2018/.
Anyways lets get started with the questions! Its a long one so make sure your sitting comfortable and grab a snack or something, enjoy reading!!
1. What or who inspired you to start your blog?
I started my blog to help me with my dyslexia and to talk about anything and everything! I didn’t really know anyone who had a blog and I didn’t read many blogs because I struggle with reading and staying focused. But with this I thought I would start a blog of my own, with a different style of writing that I would want to read, and I fell in love with blogging and finding new topics and sharing my passions with others. I was also inspired when I turned 20 to try something new that ‘teenage’ me would never EVER do, and starting a blog is defiantly something I never thought I could maintain.
2. Where is your dream travel destination and why?
I hate this question!!! There are to many amazing places and cultures that I want to explore. However the main one that sticks out is Japan. I would love to visit Japan and stay there for a couple of months to really get a feel for the country. So why Japan? I’m from the UK and I feel like Japan is a complete 180 of the UK, it seems very futuristic and so ahead of time whilst the UK still seems stuck in some old ways, and slowly evolving, whilst Japan is on a whole other level!
3. Do you have goals for your blog? If so, what are they?
I defiantly have some pretty big goals for my blog! I would love to keep my blog growing and to keep making friends with similar intrestes and passions as me. I hope to start getting recognised by a magazine or a newspaper and start writing my own column or have my own section. And my biggest goal would be to start my on TV/web series following a girl travelling the world exploring crazy things and shining a light on things going on the world that we don’t see everyday.
4. What is the last compliment you got?
So I’m really trying to rattle my brain for this question! And not because I can’t remember but because I usually don’t know the difference between a compliment and someone trying to give a compliment that I’ve not taken as a compliment or vice versa. So I think compliments are a strange thing and that its up to us what we take as a compliment, an example of this is that I get told A LOT that I’m a very chilled, laid back person, which I think is meant to be a negative thing but I take it as a compliment, the word ‘chilled’ can be seen as being lazy and not being productive or not caring, however I like being ‘chilled’ and choose to take it as a compliment, I see the word as being open minded and observaent which I see as positives. This is probably the longest answer anyone has given this question but I really find compliments a small dose of happiness in a self obsessed way.
5. What are your hobbies outside of blogging?
NOTHING!! Just kidding but also really not, blogging is for sure my biggest hobby, but besides blogging I also have a love for cooking, and a love for eating which go nicely hand in hand. I also enjoy sports and I have a very competitive nature inside me which usually only comes out between my siblings and me.
6. If you could live anywhere else (fiction or not) where would it be?
Okay so if I was asked this question when I was little I would have said London. I remember taking the train to the city and it being the most exciting expericene, seeing everyone rush around and all the lights into the late night, it really is a city that never sleeps. And if you asked me this question last year I would have answered Austrailia, Ive never visited but it seems like the perfect lifestyle for me, laid back, loads of places to explore and better work conditions, But right now after binge watching ‘Friends’ for the last 2 months, I have come to the conclusion I want to live in New York!! Again I have never visited but it seems like the best place for someone looking to get into media and be successful, also without sounding cheesy it really does seem like a magical city.
7. What is something that most people don’t know about you?
Well most people don’t know I have this blog! Not because I don’t wan them to know but because its kind of my own little thing I have where I can write about whatever I want to, within reason of course. But besides this blog, a lot of people don’t know that I love creating! Weather its in the form of writing, cooking or art I love expressing whats going on in the brain in different ways, I’m not very good at the whole ’talking’ thing, mainly because I found it hard to get my words out exactly how I want them to sound in the moment. So I like finding other ways to do so, which I think would surprise other people.
8. Do you have pets? If so post a picture of them here
I do have some beautiful pets! And you know when people have pets when they are in love with all they want to do is show you there gallery of photos they have of them, so I’ll let the photo’s do most of the talking. I have a Spaniel called Coco, a Dachshund called Archie and a Tortoise called Toby aka speedy (and I promise you he is very quick for a tortoise).
And there it is! Some really great questions that were actually a lot harder to answer than I thought. I want to say a huge thank you to @amber_grout for nominating me and getting me involved I had a lot of fun coming up with answers! Make sure to check out her blog at http://itsamberlondon.blogspot.co.uk and share your own answers in the comment section and I will be sure to respond. Make sure to be following me on twitter @IzzyDriscoll to see who I nominate. Thank you for reading and remember to never stop exploring.
I have a confession.... I'am addicted to Youtube! An have been for a good couple of years now, and through this time I have put together a list of my favourite Youtubers who I'am constantly watching over and over again, and I want to share them with you all, so you can also become obsessed with them. Some you may have heard of and some you may never even known existed on the Web. So sit back and enjoy! Also if you have any Youtubers that you love that I haven't mentioned on this list or you are equally obsessed with any of these Youtubers then please let me know in the comment section. Happy Exploring!
Rose and Rosie
Lets start with these two who are a married British couple that have to two channels that you should defiantly be subscribed to! ‘RoseEllenDix’ started youtube in 2011 and has gained up to 717k subscribers. ‘The Roxtera’ is their second channel where they mainly post funny, relatable vlogs and has up to 381k subscribers. I feel in love with these two after finding their beautiful video of their wedding, and after that I spent the next two days binge watching their old videos and their are a lot! Their video style reminds me so much of ‘old school youtube’, before their was diss tracks and clickbait, they simply sit down together and talk about whatever they want, and finding unscripted, raw content on youtube is sometimes rare, especially when they are both so naturally funny! I was once watching a video of theirs on the train and geniually laughed out loud, I think I even felt a tear fall from laughing, and it was worth the weird stares I got from everyone on that train. Because their videos are so real you feel like your sitting on that sofa with them listening to fifth harmony and chilling with Wilmer (There adorable dog). All of this reminds me why I fell in love with youtube in general, feeling like you can connect with people and become apart of something. But I am clearly not the only person who feels like this, due to their huge success with their most recent tour, and recently winning a Teen choice award, so I defiantly recommend you checking out their channels now and becoming obsessed with them before they are everywhere!!
‘ElleOfTheMills’ is a philippine born young youtuber who now lives in Canada with her mum and brother (who make regular appearances in her videos). Elle started Youtube in 2012 and has since racked up 950K subscribers, and is quickly gaining more! I first heard of Elle when a friend of mine showed me her trailer videos that she makes, she has an amazing talent in editing which is refreshing since a lot of ‘big’ you tubers these days don't edit their own videos. Her content is hilarious and extremely clever! She has created her own style of video making and has ideas that are so original and different, which again is hard to find on youtube, when you think you've seen everything, every idea and every challenge its rare to find someone with such originality on a platform like Youtube. Elle creates her own comedic opportunities by doing BOLD moves, like taking her teachers to house parties, breaking into her old school, throwing her brother a sleepover with all his exes, oh and trying to find her mum a tinder date, just to name a few of her ideas, and I’m sure you can agree, with just a basic description I have given you of these videos you already know they are going to pretty funny. Recently her channel has been gaining a lot of exposure and is growing quickly, so if you haven't already subscribed to her then you need to stop reading this and go and SUBCRIBE! And then come back here of course :).
Where do I even start with Casey. I’m certain you’ve probably already heard of him as he has over 8.6 million subscribers and only started vloging in 2015. But if you haven't then allow me to tell you how he got started in a nutshell. Casey is an American filmmaker, CEO, vlogger, father of two and a husband. With him having is first child at 17 he worked lots of different jobs, one of these being a dishwasher, and he was living in a trailer park. When Casey turned 20 he moved to NYC where he got a job as a bike messenger, but he also started to fall in love with video making, and created his first video in 2001, capturing the moment the twin towers where attacked. 2008 was the year Casey went from making short films to making just under 2 million dollars for selling an 8 episode series he worked on with his brother called ’the Neistat brothers’. So that is a brief summary of the mysterious and incredibly hard working man that is Casey Neistat, however there is a lot I missed out and his story is very inspiring, his first video I watched was his ‘Draw my life’ video which is defiantly worth a watch! Casey has changed the youtube game, each video of his is basically a short oscar winning film, with the amazing camera work, editing and commentary and not to forget the great content, he talks about real issues in the world that matter and gives out great advice on how to work hard, and I must say i don't think anyone can discredit him on his work ethic. He sleeps about 4 hours a night and then wakes up and runs 20 miles, whilst running his own company, being a father, travelling the world and to top it all off he captures all the best moments out of his day for us to enjoy, and for us to wonder how on earth he does it! I have a theory that he’s an alien or something. There are so many amazing videos Casey has created that I could create a completey serperate blog all about them, and if you have been living under a rock and haven't checked out his channel then I honestly feel for you, because you have not yet expericend the brilliance this man has to offer, so please make yourself a coffee, go on youtube, find his channel and sit back and enjoy his crazy life.
Meghan is a born and raised northern California girl, who started her youtube channel back in 2010, since then she has gained a mainly female audience with 2.3 million subscribers. On her channel you will find all kinds of content, from giving advice with her mother (which is always funny), to baking in her beautiful kitchen and giving tips in all things beauty. However you may know Meghan from other projects she has worked on besides her channel, such as being a leading character in a Hulu original series ‘Freakish’, and she was heavily involved in other Youtube channels such as ‘Awesomeness TV’ and ‘Clevver TV’. And thats not all! She also has a very popular podcast called ‘Dont blame me’ where her audience can call in and ask her for advice, and commercially tries her best to give them the best advice. Besides having an incredibly successful channel she continues to focus on her acting career, which from a little bit of stalking on her Instagram (which you should also follow, as the theme is amazing) She is currently working on a new movie. But before you see her on your TV screen I suggest you check out her channel and get to know Meghan, for her kind heart and realness that she portrays in every video, its safe to say that she isn't afraid to share everything on the internet, she even documented every day of her Nose surgery, yep thats right she is very much unfiltered, but thats why people love her and continue to watch her videos.
In my opinion you don't get more Youtube than Shane Dawson! Again I’m sure you have heard of Shane if you are an avid Youtube watcher like myself. Shane got his start in Youtube back in 2008, but before that so much had already happened! Shane was bought up with not a lot of money and very much overweight, making his childhood very difficult, however he started working for a weight loss company ‘Jenny Craig’ and lot an amazing 150 POUNDS!! But whilst working here alongside his mother and other colleagues he started to make Youtube videos, and if you have seen Shane’s earlier videos then you will know that his sense of humour was very ‘pushing’ meaning not everyone understood it and it could be very misinterpreted, this lead him to getting fired from this job as well as his mother and other colleagues who appeared in his videos. Fast forward from that he now has one of the most successful Youtube channels with 11.9 million subscribers, and is very highly respected within the Youtube community as he was one of the first Youtubers to really ‘make it’ as a successful career. Not only does he have an insanely quick, charming and funny sense of humour, he is also extremely talented in many other areas, he’s written two New York bestselling books, directed his own short films, Co hosts his own podcast ‘Shane and friends’ and he has a singing career (although I don't know if that last one counts, there more ‘jokey’ songs’). If you do check out Shane’s channel after this then not only will you fall in love with his diverse content and humour, you will also meet his adorable pets; Uno a yellow Labrador and his cat Cheeto, who I am sure you can guess is a ginger cat, not the popular snack!
Hello! My name is Izzy and I'am 20 years old, and I have dyslexia, for those of you who aren't familiar with dyslexia its basically a learning difficulty that affects your writing, reading and sometimes speech, however it does not affect your intelligence. So now we are all on the same page and understanding of what dyslexia is, I want to share with you my experience with it and how its been my best and worst quality, and if you also have dyslexia then I hope you can find some common ground with that I have to say.
As most stories do, its start with where it all began! Dyslexia is something your born with, but some people don't realise they have it until they are much older, growing up the main thing I struggled with was speech, my parents would just find it funny how I couldn't pronounce certain words and didn't pay to much attention to it. When I started primary school, it became apparent that other children where learning much quicker than me, my earliest memory was in year 2 learning the 5 times table, we would all stand up and say the 5 times table together, however instead of knowing the 5 times table I remember just looking at everyone else and trying to copy the way their mouth moved. Again I was so young that no one ever saw it as a problem I was just a little slower, nothing wrong with that. About the age of 8 I was always pulled out of my classes to have one on one tutoring with other teachers, to help me with my spelling and reading, I thought every other student was getting the same treatment, until I realised the my reading books where just filled with images and no words, when all my friends reading books would have words. It was when I was finishing primary school at age 10 that my teacher called in my mum to talk about my spelling and reading, my teacher realised I had a love for English but still couldn't spell simple words, use a full stop properly or read a paragraph without stumbling on my words. It was at that moment my teacher brought up dyslexia and thought it would be a good idea for me to get tested for it. The test took about half an hour, and when the results confirmed that I was dyslexic, so with this information I remember feeling kind of revealed that I wasn't just 'dumb' or 'stupid' but I was also scared to see how it would affect me in the future. Fast forward to secondary school and getting ready for my GCSE's, I loved English and really enjoyed the class, but I was still struggling with my grammar and puncuation MASSIVELY! Like easy simple words that a 6 year old could spell, I should also add that none of my friends at school or teachers knew I was dyslexic, I decided to keep it to myself because I was low key embarrassed and didn't want the 'special' treatment or extra help that I use to get at primary school, being a teenager at school can be difficult enough sometimes, I didn't want anything to draw anymore attention to myself or stick out as different in any way! So silently I struggled with the work, my homework wouldn't get handed in on time, my assignments wouldn't be completed and I couldn't keep up with the reading, from the outside it looked like I was just a lazy student who didn't care, but the reality was I would stay up some nights crying because I just couldn't do the work. It sucked. I had all the answers and ideas in my head but I just couldn't put it into words, I didn't know how to write it all on paper without it making no sense. I remember the day of my English mock exam, it was the worst exam for English I had ever done. I got the result back and I got a D, at the bottom of the paper it said 'please see me after class' I've never been so upset and frustrated with myself. The truth is I was actually in the top group of my English class because I of my genuine interest in the class, but I had to try 10 times harder than everyone else to remain in that group, but when it came to the mock exam I just couldn't keep it up and cracked under the pressure. Me and my English teacher spoke for a good hour after the class and I told her about my dyslexia and how I didn't want my class mates to know about it, she understood and said that if I won't let her help me then I need to take care of this myself and over the holidays get my head down and study like crazy. So I did. I studied like the mad women, I have never worked harder on anything in my life. I needed to get at least a C to go to the college I wanted to go to, I had 2 weeks to turn a low D grade to a C grade. Anyways long story short I ended up getting a B, a flipping B! I was sooooo happy and my parents and teacher couldn't believe it! This was the first moment I realised that being dyslexic didn't have to hold me back from succeeding, that if I didn't make it problem then it didn't have to be a problem. The next hurdle I had to get over with dyslexia was when I started to learn to drive, it took me 3 TIMES to pass my theory test, I remember failing the first time thinking it was okay, most people fail at first, but feeling so confident the 2nd time thinking I nailed it and put all my hard work into it, when I found out I failed the 2nd time I wanted to give up so much, I was getting dumb questions wrong and getting the words form the test all mixed up in my brain, basically when I try reading something quite quickly certain words jump out and I misread some words so the question means something else, its hard to explain but makes it nearly impossible to read paragraphs and actually process the words. I gave my everything into that 2nd theory test, I remember getting in the car with my mum and bursting into tears of frustration. Being dyslexic never upset me it mainly just made me mad, its like you can't control parts of your brain. I remember saying to my mum that all my friends passed there 2nd time and I was already studying more than them, my mum turned to me and said 'I know its hard for you to hear but you just have to try that little bit harder than everyone else'. The majority of my life I have heard that sentence over and over again 'you just have to try a little harder than everyone else' and its true, I do and I hate that I do, as I've gotten older I had to try harder than my friends to complete college, get my drivers license and to get a job. I have always had to try harder and honestly its been one my biggest struggles in my life, but as I have gotten older I have leant how to cope with it and realised when I really focus and concentrate I can overcome it, so if you also struggle with dyslexia or any other learning disability then please know it gets better and you can still achieve anything that everyone else is, and when you do it is the most amazing feeling.
So yeah! Thats my story and hopefully it gave you a little bit more information and myself and why in my blog posts my spelling and grammar can be completely off! Starting this blog was something I always wanted to do, but because of my dyslexia I was to scared to start, so I do apologise if my spelling and grammar are wrong, its something I'm still working on. And I hope you can take something from this blog weather you have dyslexia or not, I hope it gave you an inside to what it can be like, obviously I am aware that there are many other learning disabilities that are way worse than this, but doesn't mean that its not horrible and hard to live with. Thank you for reading! If you would like more personal posts like this then do leave a comment saying so and comment what you think about this post. Bye for now :)
Oh fashion! Weather your into fashion or couldn't care less about the latest trends, something we can all relate to is waking up in the morning and deciding what to wear, an activity that I have grown to enjoy. Up to the age of about 15 or 16 I would let my mum dress me, purely because I had no interest in fashion and I found shopping one of the most boring things in the world, I'm sure most mothers think shopping with their daughter is a great way t spend time with them, but my idea of shopping was walking round looking for anywhere to sit down or going into one of those gadget/gift shops. However when I got to the age of 18 I actually started enjoying shopping, I found my own 'style', I started realising what I liked wearing and what colours I liked and the style of certain items, the materials I felt good in, now I happily shop with my friends which isn't so good for my bank but I'm happy that I now take pride in what I wear and I feel 100% comfortable when I step outside. BUT! between the age of 16-18 on the road to me finding my style I defiantly experimented with a few looks and styles, which were 'interesting' to say the least.
The 3 style stages I went through
Yep, those were the 3 stages I went through to get to this point now. Looking back I'm glad I weren't through those stages because it helped me realise my own style, and it helped me learn my biggest lesson about fashion; Just because a lot of people are loving a certain trend, doesn't mean you have to love it too! I would wear clothes that were trendy at the time but I actually hated them. However it's good to experiment and try new things with fashion, even through I know what I'm comfortable wearing I still try new pieces and different colours, as long as your keeping it fun, I never thought fashion and shopping could be fun but its all about how you approach it, I use to go shopping looking for items that other people would like, not what I liked, approach fashion with your own mind and with your opinion and you'll enjoy it, I promise!!
Comment down below your own stages you went through with fashion and let me know what style you have! Also if you have any ideas of what 'lifestyle' topic I should talk about then let me know, I'm always open to new ideas.
Finding your career......
Something I'am sure a lot of you reading this have struggled with, or changed your mind about, and if not then you are one of the lucky ones! From the age of 13 I thought I knew what I wanted to be, I had it all planned out, where I was going to go after school, where I wanted to work, I believed it was what I was going to do for the rest of my life. However as I've gotten older things have started to change. I have been in the same career for 4 years now, and I've started to realise that maybe I should start looking into different career paths. Don't get me wrong I love my career and I'm so happy with where its got me and what its taught me in life, but as I have changed I feel like my career needs to change with me.
No matter who you are I believe its never to late to change your career! In fact I think it can. be quite good to switch it up with jobs, I never want to 'settle' or get 'comfortable' with my career, I've always wanted something that is constantly challenging me and something that I'am passionate about.
Career's can be complicating!! It's a big decision to make in life, its something that you spend most of your time doing and something that is going to support you. So I need some help figuring out what I should do, weather I stick with my career? Or find a new one? LETS DISCUSS IT!! In the comments below I want to start a conversation about 'finding your career' weather you've been in the same career, have changed careers before, or like me your thinking of changing, I will be replying I would love to hear what you guys think about this topic.
