Meet Anna Ellison! An L.A based Youtuber and all around influencer. I was super excited to talk to Anna about everything Youtube and find out more from an inside perspective, also to find out more about Anna herself. She's been on many an adventure sine taking on a millennial career that is forever changing. With over 24,000 views on Youtube and with just over 5,000 Instagram followers, but I think it's best to jump straight into the questions! So now over to Anna, enjoy!
1. Living in the LA area has become very popular for young people who want to be in the entertainment industry. In your honest opinion how have you found being in LA?
I love LA. I moved out here for the entertainment industry, but specifically to West Hollywood for the community. In Texas there aren’t that many openly queer people and it’s definitey not the norm to be surrounded by gay people and events. I don’t think I’ll ever move back. There’s obviously some downsides, like the fact many people can be fake and just looking for networking opportunities, but overall once you find a good group of people there’s plenty to do with them and it’s a lot of fun.
2. Let’s talk Youtube! How did it all start and why did you choose this platform?
I started my channel around the same time as coming out and moving across the country. There were a lot of changes happening in my life and it couldn’t have been better timing for me because of it. I really have two goals of my channel; one is to provide a safe space where people can relate and connect, and two is to make sure I continue to live my life to the fullest. What I mean by this is whenever I’m shooting vlogs I want it to be a good video, so I may do something that I wouldn’t have otherwise for good footage and I always have a great time doing it. It gives me that extra push to get out there and experience new things without the option of backing out. I also like YouTube because my channel is a place where I’m not pigeon-holed into one form of entertainment or creativity, so I can post whatever ideas I may have and it works together because it’s just me.
3. On your channel you openly talk about your sexuality to your audience. What was your reasoning for being so open and has this changed your personal life?
I think originally it was a way for me to be able to explain to those around me exactly how I felt and where my head was at without having to go to every person I know individually and come out. However, I also posted because sometimes other people don’t know how to articulate what they’re feeling and hearing others openly talk about it helps them figure out what’s going on with them and how they feel. I know it helped me to watch other queer people’s coming out videos before I was out, so I hope I can pay it forward.
4. From your video's it's very clear you have a passion for music. Did you grow up around music or was it something you grew to love?
There’s been music in my household since I was born. My dad is a musician so our house was always full of instruments. My parents even wrote in my baby book that when I was only a few months old they could hum a note to me and I would match pitch and hum it back. Music is a huge passion of mine and I hope I can continue to grow my skills in it and start releasing my own stuff soon.
5. What is your opinion on the ‘new’ direction Youtube is going in, with creators being more genuine with their audiences and all the drama that goes on?
I love when creators are open with their audiences, but I’m not a huge fan of putting the personal drama out there because I think it maybe isn’t the best influence you can have on kids to glamorize it.
6. Who are your biggest role models, and do they inspire you in your career life or personal life?
I honestly think that my friends are my biggest inspiration. I like surrounding myself with ambitious, creative people because we can push each other to be the best we can be and I love being able to bounce ideas off people and collaborate. They inspire me in my career and personal life because they’re all great in one way or another and it changes depending on what is happening in their lives, but there’s always something to be in awe of and strive to be better at like they are.
7. Like myself you seem to be a big fan of travelling! Where is your dream location to travel to?
I love traveling the world and there are SO many places I want to go, but I think number one on my list right now is New Zealand. There are just so many wonders of the world and places to explore there. It looks incredible. I’d love to do a trip where I could go there and to Australia in one journey.
8. If someone was to have only seen what you post on social media, how much would they really know you and who you are?
I think they’d know a good amount about me, but there is still a lot I have to share. Social media are the best parts of someone most of the time, and there are plenty of things I struggle with that I do plan on sharing eventually, but I haven’t quite worked up the courage yet. I do want to be as honest as I can be with people though because I think having someone to relate to especially during the tough times makes a huge difference.
